Brain Food > Left and Right
“There’s always going to be some group, that considers itself aggrieved and try to shut down viewpoints that they don’t like. You know I think a good example of this might be ‘Huckleberry Finn’.
Huckleberry Finn has been attacked at different times from both the right and the left. Decades ago, the right attacked it because they didn’t approve of the race mixing in the book. And now, left wing groups attack it because they believe it betrays African-Americans in a disfavorable light.
These things are always happening. They come up like dandelines in your yard - I don’t know if you can every really get rid of them, but you can just try to reduce the number.”
Former attorney Brian Meadors talking to Megan Phelps-Roper in an excerpt from ‘The Witch Trials of J.K. Rowling’ podcast.
Meadors led a 2003 case against the Cedarville Public School District. The Cedarville school board restricted student access to Harry Potter books because it was alleged they dealt with witchcraft and the occult. Any students who wished to gain access to the books required written permission from their parents.
U.S. District Judge overturned the board’s decision and ordered unrestricted access to all Harry Potter books, citing First Amendment protections in his ruling.

David McSavage on self-diagnosis:
Appendix
"I became burdened…with useless baggage that I now want off my back. I want to uneducate myself of…worthless concepts, so that I may return to a virginal personality…to a rebirth of real intent and of real self. Then I won’t be lost in a collective whole that fits nobody because it’s made to fit everybody. Wherever I go, from the corner of my eye, I see…people moving in groups, like schools of fish… This is one of the things I fear more than anything else. I loathe collectivity.
Man’s greatness and nobility consists in standing free of the mass. How he extricates himself from it is his own personal problem and private struggle."
