BRAIN FOOD: The Big Time
“I remember, he was the first of the bunch to move to London and he had a flat in Chiswick, in West London. I was in town and I stayed with him one night. Now, it takes a while for your roylaties to filter through I guess. He didn’t buy the big house in Belsize Park until ‘96 or summit, ‘Supernova heights’.
But I was in this flat in Chiswick and I’ll never forget this: I thought, wow, he’s made it, he really has made it.
What it was, was, in his hallway there was a clothes rail with all of his shirts that had all been ironed, you know with the plastic bags over it, on wire hangers, that he’d sent to a laundry.
And I thought: “that’s it, he’s made it, he has his shirts done at a laundry. Wow!”
